Today, the view is dramatically different. The trails are now wide enough to accommodate a Hummer, the hillsides are stripped, many of the birds are gone and the stream bed is bare and eroding. The tranquil park that Nancy has devoted much of her life to is no longer a desirable place for school kids to have a picnic and enjoy nature within city limits. "It's gone to the dogs," says Nancy bluntly. "This land was set aside to be a nature park.

Doggy Pedometer ushers in new era of dog training

Sometimes all we can do is tell you about a product and leave it as is. In this case, Yamasa Tokei delivers the canine accessory for which all jogging dog owners have been pining -- the Doggy Pedometer. Tripling as a dog tag, timer, and pedometer, this little gadget has several uses outside of the obvious. Say Scrapps runs away and you want to know how far he went. Or you don't have a pedometer yourself and go jogging with the dog all the time. Or you're a concerned pet owner and want to make sure Scrapps is exercising and running about in the back yard when you're away. Maybe you're a jealous spouse and want to see if your husband is running farther than he says. Perhaps you're an architect and you want to use Scrapper-do to measure long distances. Stop us now. .

Malnourished Dogs and Cats Rescued

More than three dozen malnourished dogs and cats have been rescued from a Fond du Lac home. But, some are just too sick to save. The Fond du Lac Humane Society and police removed 34 cats and four dogs yesterday from the home of a woman who has been jailed for several weeks.Humane Society President Rob Post says one cat was so thin that it died when it jumped from their van into the snow. He says its legs were about the diameter of a pencil.Eleven other cats were euthanized.Police found six cats and a German shepherd already dead inside the home. The dog had been partially eaten by other animals. An officer went to the home after a concerned neighbor called to say that no one had been there for several weeks to care for the animals. .

Shelter has pets to adopt

The shelter, 6010 County Farm Road in Ballston Spa, is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for adoptions and visiting Monday through Saturday. The fights are sometimes heard but seldom seen except by those involved in making money from the bloody spectacle. The SPCA's chief inspector, Andries Venter, has warned that smaller dogs, especially Maltese poodles, are being stolen to incite fighting dogs and to train them to kill. He urged the Cape Argus to make the problem public. Three of the police dogs will be trained for patrol missions and drug seizures. One dog will be trained to detect explosive devices. In the past, the Sheriff's Department has had up to 14 police dogs on staff. Over the past few years, however, the department has not replaced dogs that have died or retired. There are only four police dogs working in the Sheriff's Department. "I think (the dogs) play a really im-portant role for the Sheriff," said Gloria Whisenhunt, the chairwoman of the board. "I certainly support what we did tonight." She didn't get paid last week and started making calls and all the phone numbers for Canine Counselors Inc. have been disconnected, including the owner's phone. The trainer said she doesn't know much except that the company appears to be shutting down Orlando operations. The trainer is out money, and I am out $1,042, which was to cover six training sessions as well as yearly in-home refreshers, training tune-ups and unlimited telephone consultation. Lee McMurray. Weber City firefighters helped douse the fire which did minor damage, McMurray said. There was smoke damage in the basement and some on the main floor, he said. To ensure the fire would not reignite, Sgt. James Byrd said they pulled insulation and ductwork out of the home. "The fire had started to travel through the ducts," McMurray said. Officials in Fairfax County are seeking a federal grant to come up with a plan to shelter pets during regional disasters. The county's board of supervisors has asked the Department of Homeland Security for 200-thousand dollars to study how other communities care for pets during natural disasters or other catastrophic events. The Washington Post reports that the money could be used to develop a plan to evacuate and care for dogs, cats and other household pets if disasters or acts of terrorism occur. The Fairfax County Police Department's Animal Services Division wants to use the grant to hire a consultant to develop a regional pet protection plan. __ Information from: The Washington Post: http://www.washingtonpost.com/ Copyright 2007 The Associated Press.

Look for these pets at the Broome County Humane Society Shelter:

Females: Great Dane mix, brindle, young; American Staffordshire terrier, black, young; boxer/terrier mix, brindle, adult; Lab mix, black, young. The game closely followed the Stars' game with North Putnam last Saturday when they had a lead for almost the entire game, and then let the Cougars back into the game late, and eventually lost in double overtime. The difference Friday was the Stars held off Frankfort to win the game 68-62. Western Boone led by as many as 14 points early in the fourth quarter before Frankfort stormed back to cut the lead to three points. Right after they cut the lead to three points, the Hot Dogs stole the inbound pass and had an open look at a game-tying three-pointer, but came up short and the Stars went the other way and hit both free-throws to extend their lead back to five.

OccuPaws: Home-Based Guide Dog Training

For someone with a visual disability, a guide dog can represent independence and freedom. But the required training isn't always as convenient. Many out-of-home guide dog schools require you leave your home for up to four weeks. But if you've got family or work commitments, that can be tough.A Wisconsin-based non-profit called the OccuPaws Guide Dog Association is working to change that."We'll be actually training the dogs in the client's home environment so they do not have to leave for the 28 day stay. We'll actually go to them and train so they don't have to leave their families and professional commitments," founder Nicole Meadowcroft said.Meadowcroft says the Madison-based organization is a new concept with big goals. Its motto is “Harnessing Independence Through Teamwork.""I think it's going to gain popularity as time goes on...as people realize the benefits and uniqueness of what we're doing," Meadowcroft said.Dog trainer Doug Weil of Clark County has been working with Dale for the past six weeks and is now helping him and Nicole work as a team.

Savvy freshman sparks the 'Cats

WASHINGTON - Everyone heard Jay Wright's postgame pep talk at West Virginia. The Villanova players huddled around their coach on the court, eyes wide and ears open after a throttling in the Big East opener. No one, however, got the message louder than Scottie Reynolds. With a cheering section all his own in the upper deck of the Verizon Center, filled by the faithful of his nearby alma mater, Herndon (Va.) High School, Reynolds played with the kind of aggressiveness Wright needs and wants his point guard to play with. He dictated tempo, pushed the ball up the court and into the lane, adding three assists and four steals to his 16 points. And while it might not be fair, the reality is the rookie is the linchpin for this young Villanova team. The New Hanover County Board of Commissioners approved last week the development of Noble Middle School for people and pets evacuees. The two entities will be housed in separate areas within the shelter. The county is actually going along with a new federal law requiring all local areas to consider options like this for pets in disaster preparedness plans. But the action very much deserves a pat on the back from the animal lovers. As the Star-News story Dec. 19 noted, details are still being worked out as to how the shelter will operate. Donations are also coming in for supplies. Animals would be housed at no charge, and the facility will staff veterinary technicians.

Losing weight? Fido can eat too much goodies too. Pets often gain weight from tasty table scraps, which turns into another resolution: making sure our pets stay healthy in the new year. Obesity is as extremely common in animals as it is in people, Abshier-Meuth Animal Hospital veterinarian Scott Robbins said. Veterinarians use a body conditioning scale with the numbers 1-5 ranging from one being emaciated to 5 being obese. Pets ranking as a 3 on the scale would be the ideal weight depending on factors such as their breed and age. The best way to see if your pet needs to change their eating habits is to look at the size of their waist and also to feel their ribs.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://petsblog1.blogspot.com/2007/01/losing-weight-check-on-your-pets-too.html' title='Losing weight? Three prized show dogs stolen from a van in a motel parking lot in Memphis have been recovered. The Schipperkes (SKIP'er-kees) were taken from the vehicle of a Michigan couple sometime late Wednesday night or early Thursday. A man who said he knew where the dogs were helped reunite them with Gary and Vicki Hester. The animals were found yesterday in Whitehaven at a dead end road, in their crates, hidden in some bushes. All three are doing well, though they're skittish. They are valued at around 45-hundred dollars altogether. The Hesters told police someone broke the lock and stole the dogs travel crates and all, along with Christmas presents, clothes and jewelry. The motel does not allow pets. Theyre all handsome examples of their respective breeds, no doubt, but could these dogs really be enjoying their strut in front of the judges as much as it appears? The answer is yes, according to Teresa Vila, a local business owner and someone who grew up in a family that bred and exhibited dalmations. Show dogs are raised with constant handling, Teresa says. From the time they are born they are stroked and handled by their owners. They are crate-trained and socialized from birth. Even as puppies, they often accompany their breeders to shows, where they are surrounded by people.

Bozich: Tubby's Cats leave Cards feeling Big Blue

You can call it ugly. Or boring. Call it something unprintable if you like. Just make certain you call the basketball rivalry between the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville what it has officially become: Tubby's World. A world where UK coach Tubby Smith makes the University of Louisville basketball team play the game the way he wants to play the game. A world where he makes UofL fans wince every time a Cardinal player launches another no-hope shot. A world where Smith can get seven points from his two best players and still beat UofL by a dozen (61-49). A world where Smith can stir 44 productive minutes from two seniors (Lukasz Orbzut and Sheray Thomas) whose presence usually makes Kentucky fans groan. A world where one of Smith's fearless freshmen (guard Jodie Meeks) makes more three-point shots (four) than everybody on Rick Pitino's troubled team (three, or 3 for 24, to be perfectly blunt).

Shelter offering pets

The shelter, at 6010 County Farm Road in Ballston Spa, is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for adoptions and visiting Monday through Saturday. Three choices stand before Peaches: First, staying home and having room service delivered via a trusted neighbor or family member, second, going to the neighbor's to stay (where room service might be as good, but the neighborhood rather unfamiliar), and third, going to a boarding facility, where room service is brought directly, the hotel staff is certified and the fellow guests are just as furry as Peaches. Choosing a boarding facility in which to leave a pet for any period of time is "probably the safest option since well-designed kennels are safe and secure," stated the Spring Valley Veterinary Clinic's Web site.

Forrest City Dominates Red'Dogs

FAYETTEVILLE -- Every shot, every pass and every dribble -- nothing came easy for the Springdale High Bulldogs on Friday in Bud Walton Arena. As soon as the ball was tipped off on Friday, the Forrest City Mustangs controlled almost every second against the Red'Dogs and eventually took an 85-57 victory over Springdale in the loser's bracket of the Holiday Hoops Invitational Tournament. The Mustangs, who opened the game with a 27-5 run and led by as many as 31 points in the second half, took advantage of several Springdale miscues throughout the game, including bad passes and missed layups."We jumped out of the frying pan and into the fire," said Springdale coach Charlie Smith, whose team shot only 23 percent (7 of 30) from the floor in the first half. I thought it was canine psychobabble, until I realized I had inadvertently taught my goddess Emily to sit quietly if she wanted a treat. Whenever she jumped up on me and clawed at my shirt or howled in her own special key, she got nothing. It was rocket science! It brought smiles to both our faces, and it cost me not one cent to reward the good. This is the essence of obedience, citizenship training for pooches. Obedience is an ongoing conversation between you and your dog, not something done once or twice. It is not a chore, but a bonding experience that will deepen your relationship. At an advanced class of Carol Frederick's in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, recently, seven gorgeous dogs, most of them title-holding champions, sat perfectly still on a straight line three feet apart, perfectly spaced, waiting quietly for a command.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://petsblog1.blogspot.com/2006/12/good-dog-reward-key-to-pet-training.html' title='Good dog! "So far, we have learned the dogs have been going without food for four weeks," said Lt. Nemesio Arteaga of the Pasadena Humane Society. Humane Society officials said it was one of the worst cases of neglect they've ever seen. Chance, an adult Rottweiler, was found extremely emaciated, with maggots in his ear and mucus coming from his eyes, Arteaga said. The dogs were kept in a kennel at the southeast corner of the Buick dealership at Thorson Motor Center. They were provided by Crisis Canine Enforcement Services of South Pasadena. In Huntsville, pet owners are required to provide an appropriate-sized shelter for each pet that includes a roof, floor, four sides and a door, said Dr. Karen Hill Sheppard, director of Huntsville Animal Services. Fresh, clean water and food must be present. The city discourages chaining of dogs, but those that are chained must be on an untangled chain at least eight feet long. Madison County Animal Control follows the Alabama law, which only requires a shelter to allow outdoor pets to get out of the weather, according to Mike Fritz, director of Madison County Animal Control. In Madison, pet owners are not required to provide any particular type of shelter, but must provide "sufficient wholesome and nutritious food, potable water, veterinary care when needed to prevent suffering, and humane care and treatment." To report animals that do not appear to have proper shelter, food and water, call 883-3788 (Huntsville), 532-1519 (Madison County) and 772-5694 (Madison City).

Shelby County: spay and neuter your pets

Ever since I began working at the paper, I have always struggled with coming up with subject matter for my columns. Sure I could talk about myself or my husband, or stories I didn't have time to get to throughout the week, but I never felt a really strong opinion about a certain subject. When I looked at Shelby County and the many problems or situations we deal with on a regular basis, they didn't fire me up. We have problems like every other county, or so I thought. Traffic, overcrowding in schools, politicians that let us down - why get upset about something, I think to myself. We are working toward fixing the situation, and people we elect and should trust will lead us towards new solutions. I have been very complacent, not stepping on anyone's toes in offering my opinions. No longer. My stomach churns as I write this, because I am so furious at the way Shelby County handles domestic animals.

Going To The Dogs

Which Class of '06 will have a greater impact on their party, House or Senate Dems? While folks like Webb and Tester will draw more ink and air, it's Dems like Ellsworth and Boyda, and Speaker Pelosi's response to them, who'll decide whether their party's reign endures. Ellsworth and Boyda join a big class of Blue Dogs (almost all elected in the 12 years since Dems last controlled the House) that Pelosi needs to protect to hold onto power. In the past, Blue Dogs have strayed when necessary to back GOP bills. With GOPers out, will they take the lead and introduce bills in order to put them at odds with their caucus? Meanwhile, Pelosi faces demands from lefty cmte chairs whose 12 years of minority-fueled rage may be hard to rein in. And then there are the bloggers, like MyDD's Matt Stoller, who asks, "Which Democrats believe in date rape bipartisanship and which ones believe in trying to work together, and failing that, actually work to govern?" New Senate Dems are a populist lot likely to cause headaches on key issues.

Pets offered at shelter

The shelter, 6010 County Farm Road in Ballston Spa, is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for adoptions and visiting Monday through Saturday. As the No. 8 seed in the Big Ten Tournament the 'Cats will face No. 1 Penn State on Thursday. With the loss Northwestern ends the regular season 8-9-2, 4-5-1 in the Big Ten. The Badgers improve to 7-8-3 overall, 4-5-1 in the Big Ten. In cold weather and a dark sky the 'Cats came out strong against the Badgers, forcing an early corner kick. Wisconsin, needing a win to reach the Big Ten Tournament, countered with pressure, sailing a shot just above the Wildcat crossbar. The Badgers got on the board first in the 12th minute on a breakaway goal by Allison Preiss. Wisconsin went up 2-0 in the 21st minute when Elise Weber got in behind the Wildcat defense and put the ball over the head of goalkeeper Lauren Johnston (Denver, Colo./Denver East) and into the net.

Emergency Shelter for Pets and Owners in the Works

WILMINGTON -- When Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast in 2005, dozens of pets were rescued and brought to a shelter set up at Carolina Canines in Wilmington, as well as similar organizations. But many more were left behind. Rescuers did not have the time or resources to help them, outraging pet owners. "It really showed us where American values on animals are, and it's higher than expected," said Rick Hairston of Carolina Canines. "Now we have the outcry of we need to take care of them as well as the human family members.'" Now President Bush is responding to that outcry, signing the Pets Evacuation and Transportation Standards (PETS) Act into law. It requires cities and states to factor pets into emergency preparedness plans, or risk losing federal funding.

UC program helps pets that outlive owners

Through their estate plans, clients arrange to bequeath a suggested gift to whats dubbed the Tender Loving Care program. MacKay denied the allegations. "People believe they heard him say certain things and he should be a big enough man to stand up and say, 'Irrespective of what I think I might have said, obviously some people heard me say something that was deeply insulting, and I apologize,'" Layton said. Petville Kennel now offers an alternative. The kennel opened this year in a concrete-block building with no windows that kennel manager Shawnee Atteberry says would be safe in a hurricane as fierce as a Category 3. She plans to stay at the kennel with pets during dangerous storms. "It's a nice relief to know Snoopy will be taken care of," said Heather Rochan of Tampa Palms, whose dog has a standing reservation. One county storm shelter accepts pets, Burnett Middle School. Owners must stay at the shelter and care for their pets, but at the new kennel owners can drop their pets off before storms hit. Petville has four employees and indoor pens for 75 dogs.

Adoptable Pets

Quincy is a miniature schnauzer mix. He will run away if he can slip out, but otherwise, is loving and happy, and we're glad to have him. Unfortunately, we haven't given him the consistent obedience training that our past pets have had.

Pets Peace for cats and dogs

Q: I'm getting married this winter. Into my house with two cats will come a man and his dog. Is there a trick for getting the pets to live together in peace? Neither one of us wants to give up our pets. A: Start by talking with your veterinarians. They will know the breeds, ages and history of the animals and can give you specific advice on merging the households. Some general suggestions from animal care experts include: • Watch the animals carefully in the beginning for signs of aggression, such as a dog that won't take its eyes off the cats. The intensity of its attention is key. Is it "stalking"? Call the dog's name, clap your hands or stamp your foot. If you can't distract it, its predatory instinct is too great. Cats also can be the aggressors, making dogs miserable with biting and scratching.

Volunteers help match shelter pets to good homes

When Michele Manning lost her husband, Chris, suddenly last October, she was looking for a four-legged companion to keep the family's spirits lifted especially through the holidays. Owners and their friends gathered in front of the church for a special service and prayer, followed by the blessing. Holy water was sprinkled on the animals' heads. Pet owners say it's something they can do for their animals. "Look at what the animals do for us," explained Tybee resident Doug Webb. "It's important for them to be a part of the family and a part of the family of God." "They give us unconditional love," said Natalie and Clay Crawford from Savannah. "It is the least we can do. They're such a big part of the family so the least we can do is include them in our church activities." Following the service, the dogs and cats had a chance to enjoy some treats before heading home.

CHS FOOTBALL: Cats ride big night from Mead to win

What happened: Senior running back Brian Mead rushed for three touchdowns and 220 yards on 36 carries as Clovis downed Rio Rancho 36-33 in a game made close by the Cats special teams mistakes. Rio Rancho junior running back Marcus Williams rushed for 115 yards on 15 carries and caught two passes for 68 yards, including a 58-yard touchdown reception that cut Clovis lead to 36-33. Williams would later fumble on the Rams next possession, enabling the Cats to run the clock out. Clovis muffed a punt in the third quarter that set up a 21-yard touchdown pass from Rams senior quarterback Chris Charley to senior wideout Noah Wolfe, giving Rio Rancho a 26-21 lead. The Sea Dogs, the Red Sox' Double A affiliate since 2002, played their first game in 1994. Twelve years later, in their fourth appearance in the Eastern League Championship series, they became champions for the first time. Brian Myrow belted a two-run homer, Keoni De Renne tripled with the bases loaded, and Devern Hansack pitched eight strong innings as host Portland beat the Akron Aeros, 8-5, yesterday to win the series, three games to two. Portland grabbed a 4-0 lead against the defending champs in the second inning. Chris Durbin singled to lead off, Myrow belted Ronald Bay's 3-and-2 offering into the right-field seats, and George Kottaras, acquired from the Padres in the deal that sent David Wells to San Diego, added an RBI single.

Second clash over HCA dog training turns confrontational

A second dispute over dog training at local conservation areas erupted into an angry confrontation after one side accused the other of threatening violence. Joseph Gallo, whose home is across from the Fletcher Creek Ecological Preserve, took issue with a dog club president's assertion that he had threatened her with "personal violence" while she was training at the park two years ago. As he prepared to leave a Hamilton Conservation Authority advisory board meeting, the Flamborough resident turned and told club president Meadie Robinson she should be a politician or painter because of her ability to "whitewash" the truth. "Let's get it straight now, lady," he said, leaning over Ms. Robinson, who was seated, and thrusting his index finger within inches of her face.

Devils stay put in prep polls, Cats fall out of polls

The 2006 high school football season is flying by as it is already time for the week three prep polls by the LSWA.Local teams went 2-1 this week, with Leesville suffering the only loss to Sam Houston.Pickering was ranked No. 11 last week and made a statement with a 46-0 thumping of Oakdale, but still fell to the No. 12 slot in the latest poll. .

Old divide dogs Lebanese search for consensus

BEIRUT (Reuters) - Abu Abbas, a car dealer from south Lebanon, has ready answers to the litmus-test question which has traditionally split his country down the middle -- whether it should opt out of the Arab-Israeli conflict. Alexia Tiraki-Kyrklund denies she mistreated the animals and a believes the city will now euthanize the pets, the Los Angeles Times reports. Animal-control investigators suffered eye and throat irritation when they entered the Noah's Ark Animal Rescue shelter, even with their masks on, said Wesley Moore, Long Beach's chief of animal control. "We had animals with urine and feces soaked into their coats, with toenails grossly overgrown, deformed and discolored, and with eye irritations and nasal discharge," Moore said. If Tiraki-Kyrklund, 37, is convicted of felony animal cruelty, she could face jail time, public service and counseling, Moore said.

EXPERTS: MOSQUITO SPRAY HARMLESS FOR HUMANS, PETS

Although some Contra Costa County residents have complained that they have not received sufficient notice of spraying in their neighborhoods to kill mosquitoes carrying West Nile virus, experts say the insecticide they use is nothing to worry about. Steve Schultz, an entomologist with the Contra Costa County Mosquito and Vector Control District, said that the insecticide has been widely used throughout the United States for the past 20 to 30 years without any harmful effects being detected to humans or pets. Deborah Bass, spokeswoman for the district, has said that the insecticide is far less toxic than many commonly used household cleaners. The insecticide, called Pyrenone 25-5, is extracted from chrysanthemum flowers and sprayed into the air at extremely low concentrations, Schultz said.

Golf 'Dogs ninth at Newton

Coach Terry Austin's Carmi-White County High School golf team shot a 358 Saturday to finish ninth at a 14-team tournament in Newton.Jake Smock paced CWC with an 83. That's what a Kansas State University professor learned through researching three dog training programs at two Kansas correctional institutions. The Kansas Department of Corrections asked Dana Britton, associate professor of sociology at Kansas State, to look at a program at the Ellsworth Correctional Facility for men and two programs at the Topeka Correctional Facility for women. Britton was assisted by Andrea Button, Kansas State University graduate student in sociology, Manhattan. At Ellsworth, inmates work with Canine Assistance Rehabilitation Education and Services Inc. to teach commands to assistance dogs that might become therapy dogs, hearing assistance dogs or dogs for people who have seizures.

TAC not seeking talks with Cats

THE Transport Accident Commission won't be seeking a please explain from the Geelong Football Club after ruckman Brad Ottens' positive alcohol reading last weekend. A TAC spokeswoman yesterday said the club had contacted the Commission as a matter of courtesy but there would be no specific talks regarding the incident. The spokeswoman said the TAC had a ground signage agreement with Geelong, similar to other agreements they had at the MCG and Telstra Dome, and a community networking arrangement which gave the Commission access to Geelong community leaders. This was aimed at assisting with the TAC's shift from Melbourne to Geelong in 2009, she said. Geelong chief executive Brian Cook said the club would decide on disciplinary action for Ottens by the end of the week. The pet-friendly shelter at West Boynton Recreation Center, 6000 Northtree Blvd., could have accommodated about 300 cats, 270 dogs, 200 birds, rabbits and other "pocket pets" such as gerbils -- and about 300 pet caregivers. The few pet owners spending the night had plenty of room for their sleeping bags and belongings. Pet owner Tony Gothrie, 45, plopped his 414-pound body in the center of the gym floor on six inflatable mattresses. He came with Malachi, an 11-year-old Shitzu mix. Fortunately for these wonderful creatures, over the last decade, chinchillas have grown increasingly popular as pets. For those who have not had the pleasure of meeting a chinchilla, they are attractive rodents with fluffy tails something like a cross between a small rabbit and a squirrel. You're most likely to see a chinchilla in a shade of silvery gray, but there are now many shades for chinchillas, including white, beige, black and violet (a purplish- gray color). Originally from the South American Andes Mountains, they need fairly low temperatures and humidity. Because they can live from 12 to 20 years, it's important to plan for a chinchilla's long-term care if you decide to get one. Common questions about keeping chinchillas as pets include:Question: Can I get just one chinchilla or should I think about two?Answer: Chinchillas can be happy as single pets, especially if you take great care to interact with yours.

Proposal to ban dogs from Table Mountain National Park

A draft proposal contained in the revised conservation development framework for Table Mountain National Park suggests that dogs may be banned from most areas of the park. The new draft framework designates zones for different activities in the park, in order to ensure that sensitive areas are protected. Critics have argued dogs are often essential protection, as authorities were not dealing with a spate of recent attacks within the park. Mike Slayen of Table Mountain National Park has responded by that saying that "the status quo would remain" regarding dog-walkers for the time being". He explained that the development framework proposal was open for public comment. Slayen warned that most small animals in the park had been lost due to dogs, and that there had been many complaints regarding dogs from the public.

Bring your pooch to free dog training open house

Find out if dog training is what Fido needs at this free dog training open house Sept. 27. What Best Pets attempts to do is bring this problem to the attention of the public, as well as provide a new way in which to solve it. As the struggle continues to bring more people into animal shelters, Best Pets brings shelter animals to the people! The Best Pets truck is a bright, cheerful and friendly place to visit with and adopt homeless dogs and cats. Best Pets is also mobile which allows it to target high traffic, high volume areas and events. Working side by side with animal shelters in the Denver area, they showcase and place unwanted animals into permanent homes. Their primary function is to promote the adoption of displayed shelter animals, while raising awareness of pet overpopulation.
